About The Artist
I was born in Belgium in 1988 and grew up as an only daughter and granddaughter. I’ve been a vegetarian for many years and I love animals. As a child, my grandfather often brought me to drawing class. Drawing is something I’ve always loved (as well as spending time with my grandparents). Later I’ve graduated and obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design. Besides being a wildlife artist, I’m also active as a graphic designer. I create birth announcements, flyers, labels, posters, packaging designs and invitations.
Nature is my greatest source of inspiration. I like to stay there as much as possible and relax. Together with my boyfriend and my mom, I often travel -inside and outside Europe- to enjoy the beauty of nature (for example the United States, Mexico, Kenya, Bonaire, Spain, Italy, England and France). Wildlife is therefore the subject of my work. I’d like to discover its entire spectrum. Think about different species of fish, amphibians, birds, reptiles, mammals, insects, but also mushrooms and plants.
My mission is to draw attention to the beauty of wildlife and how essential biodiversity is. But also emphasize how vulnerable nature is and how important it is to protect it. How do you portray the beauty of wildlife as best as possible? I always start from a reference photo and try to represent the subject as good as possible and lifelike. I currently use colored pencils, usually pastel. A job that takes many hours and asks for a lot of details, but if the result is satisfying, it is certainly worth it.
I really hope that my art captures the imagination and makes the viewer aware of the environment. I hope that it triggers people and that it raises the question: “Are you also thinking about us? We are still here and we hope to continue to survive as a species.” An important message and at the same time a subtle nod to the viewer in these times of climate change.
